A pet is an animal kept for companionship and enjoyment or a household animal, as opposed to livestock, laboratory animals, working animals or sport animals, which are kept for economic reasons. The most popular pets are noted for their loyal or playful characteristics, for their attractive appearance, or for their song. Pets also generally seem to provide their owners with non-trivial health benefits; keeping pets has been shown to help relieve stress to those who like having animals around. There is now a medically-approved class of "therapy animals," mostly dogs, that are brought to visit confined humans. Walking a dog can provide both the owner and the dog with exercise, fresh air, and social interaction. Local restrictionsMany cities and towns have local ordinances limiting the number of pets a person may have, and may also restrict or forbid certain pets (such as fowl or exotics). Certain breeds of dog, such as pit bulls and rottweilers, are banned in some places. Dog/other canid/wolf mixes are also banned in some places. The cities of Berkeley, California and Boulder, Colorado have passed laws stating that people who have pets do not "own" them; rather, they are the pet's "guardian." Condominium associations and rental properties often ban animals because of the smells and noise the animals create. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How many people give pets as a Christmas gift? Q. I have never felt that giving pets as a "throw away" holiday gift was a very good idea, especially to very young children. They don't really know how to care for or properly handle a kitten or small puppy. Then after the novelty wears off, the poor animal is often mistreated or neglected, then thrown outside when the coldest part of the winter is settling in to starve or freeze to death. PLEASE - don't give pets as gifts, especially without consulting parents or guardians! Q. I seem to think that my cats are bored because they sleep too much! They seem sad, not very playful and they are only 1 year old. What are some signs of happy pets or unhappy pets? Asked by RAE in N.Y. - Mon Feb 2 14:52:51 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Cats are supposed to sleep an average of 18 hours a day... that is perfectly normal... as long as they eat sleep and poop normally... you have a happy cat... some cats are just not that playful while others are bouncing off the wall... chill... they are cats doing what cats do best lol Answered by rixs_cowgirl2008 - Mon Feb 2 15:09:02 2009 Are you normally allowed to keep pets when you buy a flat in Australia?
Q. I'm looking to buy a flat but I've heard mixed stories about strata laws in Australia and being able to bring in pets. Is it normal that buildings don't allow small pets like birds or cats even if you buy your own flat? Asked by Tom A - Tue Jul 22 00:25:56 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. The general feedback from strata on pets is NO. This fluctuates between strata plans though as remember they apply to townhouses and apartments. If you are an owner it is probably easier to get a pet approved but as a tenant it can be very difficult. Some strata plans are pet friendly (eg if there is a massive courtyard and it's more like a terrace than a townhouse) but most aren't. You may find that even in a building where pets generally aren't permitted they will let you keep one. I am a property manager and we recently received approval for a cat at a "no pets" property. I too rent and we have been allowed to keep our budgie in an apartment. So long as you go about it the right way you should be okay but I'd do a bit of research… [cont.] Answered by austentatiousworrier - Tue Jul 22 08:37:51 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Pets" See also:
