From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A society or a human society is a group of people related to each other through persistent relations such as social status, roles and social networks. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals sharing a distinctive culture and institutions. Without an article, the term refers either to the entirety of humanity or a contextually specific subset of people. Used in the sense of an association, a society is a body of individuals outlined by the bounds of functional interdependence, possibly comprising characteristics such as national or cultural identity, social solidarity, language or hierarchical organization. Canis lupus social ethologyLike other groupings, a society allows its members to achieve needs or wishes they could not fulfill alone; the social fact can be identified, understood or specified within a circumstance that certain resources, objectives, requirements or results, are needed and utilized in an individual manner and for individual ends, although they can't be achieved, gotten or fulfilled in an individual manner as well, but, on the contrary, they can be gotten only in a collective, collaborative manner; namely, team work becomes the valid functional means, to individual ends which an individual would need to have but isn't able to get. More broadly, a society is an economic, social or industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied collection of individuals. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. A society may be a particular ethnic group, such as the Saxons; a nation state, such as Bhutan; a broader cultural group, such as a Western society. The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. A "society" may even, though more by means of metaphor, refer to a social organism such as an ant colony or any cooperative aggregate such as for example in some formulations of artificial intelligence. Asked by Really Now? - Wed May 27 14:34:58 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. it isnt important to society if gays marry... although they would have you believe so. this county is a christian country founded on christsian principles and according to most christian beliefs as well as what is plainly written in the Bible, homosexuality is a sin. i more than anyone believe that gov't and religion shouldnt mix but allowing gays the same rights as non gays kinda sets the tone that it is ok to be gay...and well, its not. for a select vocal minority to insist that i go against what i believe God wants just to politically legitimize their alternative lifestyle is unamerican. if you are gay, then be gay...dont get me to agree with it or expect me to pay for your lifestyle thru my taxes or the rise in cost for my insurance or… [cont.] Answered by mrcdkid - Wed May 27 15:14:55 2009 What matters more, the needs of society or the rights or indivduals? Q. In an orderly dictatorship, the needs of society are met with what the western world has deemed cruel and unusual punishment. They have lower crime rates, but people (apparently) live in fear. In democratic nations, we tend to value the rights of the individual more. I always hear about appaling things in the news, but the criminal can get off because their rights were violated. Where do we draw the line? I believe the rights of individuals are important, but the needs of society are equally important. If we could find a way to balance those two, I think the world could be a much better place. But what are your views? Asked by High Flyer - Mon Feb 18 19:33:35 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. I believe America has that balance right now. Every society has news that is appalling. Crime, poverty, injustices are found in every society to varying degrees. When people are truly free they can reach their full potential. If we as a society want to meet the needs of the less fortunate, we need to elevate our standards. Morals are just as important as economics. Answered by Capone - Mon Feb 18 19:49:32 2008 What is or what do you think an independently thinking society is?
Q. I just need assistance in understanding what is an independently thinking society or an example? I need this in order to comprehend this writing prompt. I think an independently thinking society (well self explanatory) refers to a society where people have the freedom to come up with ideas on their own and share it. Do you agree?
