How much would it cost to adopt from over seas?
Q. I've been doing a little research on how much it'd cost to adopt domestic and the price to adopt an infant is outrageous, and a little disturbing in my opinion. I was wondering if adopting an infant from over seas be less... My wife and I can't conceive a baby and we aren't the richest people but still would love to start a family. Any information would be great.

A. Hello. My husband and I adopted a sibling group of 3 last year. International adoptions cost around $40 K on average. That is figuring in agency fees, foreign fees, travel, food, etc. The cost greatly depends on the country and length of time you are in the country. For example, China, a one-trip country, is not going to have the same costs as Russia, a two-trip country. Keep in mind too that you do not pay this all at once; fees are stretched out over a period of time. You do not have to be rich to adopt internationally, but you do have to plan and be financially sound. You need to save, you can take out loans and there are grant programs as well (hard to come by, but they do exist). Adopting an infant overseas is however, becoming less… [cont.]

Ive been researching but al I can seem to find are things for Americans adopting from there. What are the requirements (age, income, permanent residency) if you live there. Please help me as this is something I extremely want to do. Also if you could list some agencies that are in that country I would be most grateful. thanks sooo much!

A. I'm assuming you are a U.S. citizen? And I am also assuming when you move to Kazakhstan, you will still be a U.S. citizen? You say you can only seem to find things for Americans adopting from Kazakhstan. Well, if you are an American now, you will still be an American whether you move to Kazakhstan or France or Mexico. I would research adoption agencies here and talk to them about your situation. WACAP is a reputable agency that does Kazakhstan adoptions. And I know they work with people living internationally, such as military personnel.

A. A dog's temperment is primarily formed by its treatment and raising by previous owners. Any breed dog can be aggressive. I agree that any GSD needs an experianced owner, someone with plenty of time to spend with the dog, and someone who is a natural pack leader. GSD's can be very willful and destructive when bored. A GSD will normally be owner centric---meaning they don't run up to strangers and slobber happily all over them. They are guardians. This can make some difficult to adopt...they really mourn from missing their previous owners. Unfortunately GSD's have in some cases come from inexperianced breeders. These animals can have many back/hip/eye problems that many new owners can't afford to fix. Also poorly bred GSD's can have serious… [cont.]

Q. I'm interested in adopting a child. My sister didn't have any children and ended up adopting identical twin girls from Eastern Europe, they are 13 and have cerebral palsy and both can't walk. They are very beautiful and sweet and my sister is very close to them...Is it generally easier to adopt an older child? What about an older child with a physical disability? A. I am a foster mom, and have adopted three. One was actually in my oldest daughter's foster home (she and her husband were a group foster home). I knew him well from birth, he became my adoption placement when he was a year old, and we finalized when he was eighteen months old. We had gotten a foster/adopt license when we adopted him, so we began fostering for the state again. One week after we finalized our sons adoption, the little girl who became our adopted daughter came to live with us, she was two and a half, and we finalized her adoption when she was four. Six weeks after her adoption was final, we were asked to take her five month old baby brother, and we did. We finalized his adoption when he was three days from eighteen months old… [cont.]

Where to adopt or rescue or get a free St Bernard in michigan?
Q. I want to adopt, rescue or get a free st bernard in michigan! I realy love this breed and have always wanted to get one and ad him to our family. Where can i get one? Does anyone have experience with this breed what is it like to own one. How affectionate are they? If anyone wants to give one away please send me a message!
Asked by stbernard@rocketmail.com - Tue Jul 15 18:22:20 2008 - Dogs - 4 Answers - Comments

A. Saints can certainly be affectionate. I've had them sit in my lap! While the dogs aren't free, you save a ton of money as everything is included in the adoption price that you would need to pay for with a "free" dog, but at a much lower cost. So, essentially a shelter pet is cheaper than a "free to good home" dog. Also, by supporting rescue, you aren't supporting a backyard breeder or puppy mill by taking away their giveaways. if you're interested in adopting a dog but live too far away from it, there is often the option of having a dog transported to you/closer to you. Google "dog rescue transportation."

A. Many African countries offer fairly painless (as far as adoptions go) adoptions; Ethiopia is an example. Most countries require that you are at least 25 and some require that you are 30 (China). You will have mounds of paperwork and home studies, but it's not all that bad from what I understand.

What is it like to Adopt a child from the foster care system?
Q. Is it any easier or harder than regular adoption with a baby. What are the kids usually like, I have read about some of them being harder to handle. Have you had experience with a hard to handle kid? What are the older ones like? I am kinda interested in adopting siblings, is this a good idea. How do you look for a child to adopt? Do you get to meet them or do anything with them to see if you are a good match?
Asked by JC Forever - Tue Jul 5 15:32:24 2011 - Adoption - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Foster care adoption, unlike infant adoption through a private agency, has basic requirements to ensure the safety and stability of the child but are not interested on your religion, in many states they do not care about your marital status and it is more economical. In my opinion, it is a much simpler and open process to adopt through foster care. Not all children in foster care have "issues" but many do since they have survived difficult situations that would alter the personality of the most stable adult. However, in many ways they are just regular children with unique personalities and needs. Beneath the complexities there is always a child. If you approach the foster care system you will be given tools and support to care… [cont.]

A. I think it depends on which county's road you want to adopt. Each government agency has different requirements, but for most "adoptions," it's really a matter of keeping it clean. Here's some information from King's County's (Seattle, WA) Adopt-A-Road program: About the Adopt-A-Road Program The King County Adopt-A-Road Program is a litter-reduction campaign designed to remove litter and debris from county roads and improve the quality of the environment. A. I volunteer for a local humane society shelter that does get smaller animals like g. pigs, hamsters, and rabbits. There are different policies at different shelters, but I can tell you how ours works. You do have to physically come in to the shelter where you will fill out papers, pay fees, etc. You will have to go through some meeting where they ask you questions and give you information so you know what you're getting into. You are also required to be at least 21 years old in order to adopt. So you may want to bring your Mom with you, because your local shelter will most likely have a similar policy. Good luck!

A. All Phillipine adoptions must go through ICAB - This is a link to their FAQ While the information is geared toward non-relative adoptions, they do mention in a few places that relative adoptions will be treated slightly differently. Spend some time at the site and use their contact information to contact someone there who can help you. You're also going to have to check with US Immigration about bringing your cousin to the US as the adopted child of permanent residents. I looked into it very quickly for you and the easiest summary of the rules that I can find is here:

Asked by Kenny - Fri Jul 3 17:53:43 2009 - Other - Pregnancy & Parenting - 1 Answers - Comments

A. If the child is your relative, then contact Social Services in Florida and ask them how you can do these things either locally or in one day seminars in Florida. Expect to make one or 2 trips to Florida. As far as requirements, if you are a relative, age, marital status and religion aren't usually considered that strongly. It is usually better for the child (and the state of Florida) if a child is raised by relatives. If you are adopting a stranger's child, then I would suggest contacting the agency involved and ask how to do this long distance. Local problems for the classes are usually acceptable if similar.

A. It depends on a lot of factors- whether you want to adopt domestically or internationally, an older child or an infant, etc. The cost ranges from very cheap for foster care adoption to thousands of dollars for international adoption. But of course cost is only part of the picture, there are lots of pros and cons to each. I suggest mining through this site for a while: Best wishes to you and your growing family! <3 Kelsey

Adoption is a process whereby a person assumes the parenting for another who is not kin and, in so doing, permanently transfers all rights and responsibilities from the original parent or parents. Unlike guardianship or other systems designed for the care of the young, adoption is intended to effect a permanent change in status and as such requires societal recognition, either through legal or religious sanction. Historically some societies have enacted specific laws governing adoption whereas others have endeavored to achieve adoption through less formal means, notably via contracts that specified inheritance rights and parental responsibilities. Modern systems of adoption, arising in the 20th century, tend to be governed by comprehensive statutes and regulations.
