Pet "soft paw " claw covers?
Q. I brought and had these soft paw claw covers applied to kittens claw by vet while they had her in for spaying. They looked great... she pulled them all off within 24 hours ...wonder if I should apply again. Or just wait for her to stop scratching me, she doesn't scratch furniture just me and not on purpose. ie she jumps on my legs to get to my desk or greet me when she wakes...climbs up my leg when I am doing dishes etc I attempt to keep her nails trimmed and always keep my legs covered. Yes she is spoiled, at 10 wks old I hope she will grow out of this soon declawing is not an option.

A. It is a kitten's nature to claw, if a person is concerned about clawing they very simply should not get a kitten. I am glad that declawing is not an option - it is cruel and with many side affects. They will outgrow it. They do not need them on their hind paws, only their front, soft paws look great but an active kitten may remove them quickly as you found out, I wonder if they were the right size. You may want to call the vet as they should have stayed on longer than that and the vet might put them on again for free if you are unable to do so yourself. Maybe the vet didnt use enough glue? Be sure your kitten has cat furniture to claw, climb, and sleep on.

How to teach my hamster the "paw" trick?
Q. Right now what I am doing is putting my finger bear his chest to make him put his paw on my finger and saying "paw". Then I say "good job good boy" and pet him. If I keep doing this (maybe sneaking some treats in too) will he learn the paw trick on command? Are there any other tricks I could teach him?
Asked by - Tue Sep 27 21:09:18 2011 - Rodents - 1 Answers - Comments
A. From what I know hamsters cannot be trained, if you want a good training pet I would suggest a rat. They are a lot smarter than hamsters.

HELP! my cats front paw "clicks" when he walks, anyone else?
Q. This just started about a month ago. You can actually hear him coming because there is a "click" coming from his front ankle with every step. It seems to come and go and he doesnt seem to be bothered by it in the least. He is 6 years old and has just recently been alowed to be an outdoor cat now that the weather has cleared up. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Sorry I didnt mention earlier, his front paws are declawed. Thanks for your answers!

A. It's probably ligaments clicking over bone. If he's not limping or standing with the foot up, it isn't bothering him. One of ours clicks with the extra toe that's folded back (polydactyl on the front) and when he kneeds on my neck at night I can feel the grab/click of what you're describing. He has that in his right front foot. It doesn't bother him at all, even though it seems fairly dramatic to me.

Hi all--Do you know if your kitty is a "South Paw?" & how?
Q. This just occurred to me. I really do know a lot about cats, but not this one & have never seen it asked. I realized that every time she wakes from a nap & says "Hello" she reaches out her RIGHT arm & paw. She also pats her toys with her right paw, as well as patting me with her right--when she senses I'm a little "down." Seems beyond coincidence, & after all, what "shouldn't" cats be right or left "pawed?" Have you ever noticed with your cat/s? Love to hear from you. No "nawss" please? (Or do I expect too much?) Thanks! Okay, sorry about that. Just sometimes "seems" people give my word or line to get points. I don't think this is about points, & I'm SERIOUS &am [cont.]

How would you say and pronounce "paw" in German?
Q. ...For like, teaching a dog to give paw? I looked up how to say it and it said, "die Pfote" Is that right? If so, how do you pronounce it correctly? Don't want to be saying it wrong. Day Foot? Long "o" sound? That's my guess, but hopefully someone can help me out if I'm wrong! Thanks.
Asked by - Sun Aug 23 12:51:42 2009 - Languages - 4 Answers - Comments
A. To a dog you'd say "Pfote!" (without "die") or "Gib Pfote!" (Give paw). You can look at the following page how it's pronounced, just click on the loudspeaker symbol: There is also listed "Gib Pfotchen", Pfotchen just means little paw.

What is a "Cats Paw" in Geology terms?
Q.
Asked by Scott S - Thu Nov 23 09:07:50 2006 - Earth Sciences & Geology - 2 Answers - Comments
A. A bit vague I know, but this is the best I can come up with. There is a nautical expression "cats paw" which refers to a light transitory air which ruffles the surface of the water during a calm, or the ripples made by such a puff of air. Otherwise, in geology, the only other references to "cats paw" are features such as glaciers or rock formations which are called this because they resemble a cats paw. (see link)

A. The lingering terror of The Monkey s Paw is that we have no idea what the last wish was. Clearly, Mr. White wished for his son to be gone at least that s what it appears he wished for. But we don t know for certain. And even more chilling what will be the consequence of the last wish?

How do you put on a "Lil' Paw" Adjustable Harness for the Peitite Dog?
Q. I need some instructions cause the ones it came with are soo basic and ive never done it before. i just dont want to put it on her wrong and hurt her. any help would be appreciated it!!! Below is a link to a picture of my exact harness so you know what kind i have.

A. Hi there...I just happened to be shopping on-line for one of these harnesses for my dog (we already own one), and your question came up...The easiest way I can explain it is as follows: Unhook the harness and lay it on the floor, making sure to have the small piece that divides the two longer pieces, in the middle. I then take her little paws and place one paw in one opening and the other in tthe other opening. With her still standing, I then pull the two clip ends up on her back and snap. When it is laying on the floor, it should look like a diamond with the smaller piece running down the middle. I know...kind of confusing...Hope it helps!

how do i teach my puppy "paw"?
Q. I tried the thing where you hold a smelly treat until they paw at it, then say "Paw" it worked in a day with my other dog, but the puppy i have now was already taught "Leave it" by her old owners, and just looks away instead of pawing my hand, what do i do?

A. Show the treat, Touch the paw - say "Paw" or "Shake". Then actually lift the paw up and hold in your hand while saying "Paw" or "Shake" and give the treat while holding the paw. Repeat... shouldn't take too long!

What does "south paw" mean in MLB talk?
Q. Also what is "apb" in MLB? or "balanced offence" mean? thanks.
Asked by nickysantor - Sat Jun 20 15:01:57 2009 - Baseball - 9 Answers - Comments
A. South Paw means a left-hander. From Wikipedia: "Ballparks are often designed so that batters are facing east, so that the afternoon or evening sun does not shine in their eyes. This means that left-handed pitchers are throwing with their south-side arm" Balanced Offense (not offence) means a lineup with all aspects (speed, smarts, walks, contact, homerun power, double power, etc.). APB, I think, stands for Annual Performance Bonus, which I believe is a bonus a player recieves if he does something by the end of the year (for example, they may get half a million if they hit 30 homeruns or something).
