Nouncomputers
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a set of instructions. Although mechanical examples of computers have existed through much of recorded human history, the first electronic computers were developed in the mid-20th century (1940–1945). These were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers (PCs). Modern computers based on integrated circuits are millions to billions of times more capable than the early machines, and occupy a fraction of the space. Simple computers are small enough to fit into a wristwatch, and can be powered by a watch battery. Personal computers in their various forms are icons of the Information Age and are what most people think of as "computers". The embedded computers found in many devices from MP3 players to fighter aircraft and from toys to industrial robots are however the most numerous. The ability to store and execute lists of instructions called programs makes computers extremely versatile, distinguishing them from calculators. The Church–Turing thesis is a mathematical statement of this versatility: any computer with a certain minimum capability is, in principle, capable of performing the same tasks that any other computer can perform. Therefore computers ranging from a mobile phone to a supercomputer are all able to perform the same computational tasks, given enough time and storage capacity. From Wikipedia under the

I have high speed internet through my phone company (zoomtown) I just bought a new computer and am giving my old computer to my brother. How to I hook both computers to the internet. Do I need to get another box for the old computer from the phone company, or do I need to to set up a wireless network on my own? Asked by Donnie - Sat Nov 14 00:20:29 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. You can connect as many computers as you want. The "box" you refer to is the high-speed modem. That's the device that is directly connected to your ISP, and is the ONLY device directly connected. This modem is called your "gateway" to the internet. When you connect a single computer to the internet, you use an ethernet cable to connect your computer to the modem, which has a single ethernet port. However, if you have more than one computer, you can plug what's called a "hub" to the modem instead, and then plug your computers into the hub. Most hubs have 4 ports, but you can get them with 6 or 10, and even more if you look around. If you have more computers than you have ports, you can plug another hub into the first hub. In the past, I've plugged in my ipod on the primary computer and another computer in my house. Both had itunes installed. However, whenever I plugged my ipod into the second computer, the files were erased off my ipod. Therefore, I had to plug it into the primary computer to retrieve the files again. So, how can I save the same files on both computers without running the risk of deleted files? Asked by TRN - Mon Jan 28 18:04:50 2008 - - 1 Answers - 4 Comments A. I think you'd need to have identical library files-- you could try transfering them (the audio and library file) to the SAME folder on your other computer via internet/ LAN line. I've never tried this-- but it seems like the logical procedure. Answered by Kid Icarus - Mon Jan 28 18:17:56 2008 What negative impact do computers have on Humans beings?
