From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Dragons are legendary creatures, typically with serpentine or otherwise reptilian traits, that feature in the myths of worldwide cultures. The two most familiar interpretations of dragons are European dragons, derived from various European folk traditions, and the unrelated Oriental dragons, such as the Chinese dragon (lóng 龍 or 龙). The English word "dragon" derives from Greek δράκων (drakōn), "dragon, serpent of huge size, water-snake", which probably comes from the verb δρακεῖν (drakein) "see clearly". DescriptionDragons are usually shown in modern times with a body like a huge lizard, or a snake with two pairs of lizard-type legs, and able to emit fire from their mouths. The European dragon has bat-type wings growing from its back. A dragon-like creature with no front legs is known as a wyvern. Following discovery of how pterosaurs walked on the ground, some dragons have been portrayed without front legs and using the wings as front legs pterosaur-fashion when on the ground, as in the movie Reign of Fire. Q. Vampires are all the rage with the releases of all those vampire-based stories, but dragons don't seem to get as much attention. Like, there doesn't seem to be as many people going gaga over Eragon at the rate that they do with Twilight. Why does everyone just love vampires so much over the dragons? Dragons are so much more epic and could make roast beef out of a vampire any night. Asked by Nero T. Pickle - Mon Aug 10 04:37:44 2009 - - 27 Answers - 0 Comments A. A lot of the vampire books are written with the vampire in some sort of romantic light, be it that they're really good somewhere deep down, described as a gorgeous young man/woman, trapped forever in youth at, let's face it, his/her sexual prime, or that he/she is actually the love interest in the story. Not to mention that a lot of people like to imagine themselves in the story, and just as in popular music, falling in love is much more prevalant than fighting a legion of evil in the mind of a lot of listeners /readers. and the fact that vampires start out as humans until they're raptured into this alternate state of being, thus leading a secret life makes it easier to relate to the character since, in a way, dont most of us lead some… [cont.] Answered by mrsalstadt - Mon Aug 10 05:36:29 2009 When does egg production slow down with female bearded dragons?
