Q. I have nearly $15,000 in education expenses for 2009. Can I use $10,000 of that expense towards the Lifetime Learning credit to get the maximum, and then use the remaining $5000 to claim a business deduction for work-related education for which I qualify? I can't get a clear answer.

A. first of all there is a limit on the Lifetime Credit and I believe $1000 exceeds that and I don't understand your business, work related education, you can't get a clear answer because your question is not clear and $15000 in education credits seems unreasonably high

A. Pride and Prejudice (because Jane Austen is awesome and it's really such a classic love story) The Catcher in the Rye (because it's sort of dubbed as the first YA novel. And it's just excellent) To Kill A Mockingbird (because it holds really strong themes and is an enjoyable read)

Where can I sell my lifetime cookware?
Q. So, I bought this set of lifetime cookware pots and pans. I went to a demonstration and was WOWED by their performance. This set promotes healthy eating/cooking and energy conservation. Unfortunately, I never used them, and now need the money... I purchased them for $1400. I have tried listing them on craigslist, and other classified sites. Any suggestions? I tried ebay...

A. If ebay didn't work, just use them and forget about it. You must have really liked them when you bought them. No reason to save them for a better time, either.

Why does positronium have a longer lifetime in its excited state than in its ground state?
Q. According to Wikipedia, positronium has a lifetime of 125ps in its ground state, but 1.1us in its 2S state. Why is this the case, and how would you keep positronium in an excited state in order to extend its lifetime? Moore, yes but why is it less likely to undergo annihilation while in its excited state? Is it simply because the orbitals don't overlap?

A. Consider a hydrogen atom. In the ground state the wave function of electron is Gaussian bell, which means that most likely place to the electron is right inside the proton. In 2S state the wave function expands to wider region, and the probability to find the electron at the center inside the proton is lower. But even better is 2P state with angular momentum L=1, and wave function of the electron at the center is exactly zero. Obviously the probability of interaction is the highest in the 1S state, then lower probability in 2S state, and zero probability of interaction in 2P state. The positronoum is somewhat different because unlike proton the positron cannot be considered motionless, but basic idea is the same, yes, it is due to better… [cont.]

How can free neutrons, which have a mean free lifetime of 15 minutes, travel millions of light years?
Q. Free neutrons have a mean free lifetime of around 15 minutes. Yet free neutrons are observed entering the atmosphere, and these were produced in supernova explosions in galaxies millions of light years away. How is this possible?
Asked by Emily R - Tue Nov 10 14:21:44 2009 - Physics - 4 Answers - 1 Comments
A. This is relativity/time dilatation in action. When a particle has a velocity close to the speed of light, then it will appear to have a longer lifetime before it decays. Within its own reference frame, it still lasts only 15 minutes, but to the outside universe millions of years have passed. The same effect is seen on a small scale within particle accelerators every day. Particles that should decay very quickly are seen to have much longer lifetimes because of their high velocity. It is also seen when cosmic rays hit the Earth's atmosphere and react to produce showers of other particles, including many that should decay before they have time to hit the ground. Yet they do, because of the ultra-high velocities involved.

Q. I know a monthly period lasts about 7 days, but over a lifetime? Does it ever stop after a certain time since it's started?

A. Menapause is when the periods stop, anything from 45 to 55 yrs of age. But you dont have to have 12 periods/ year if you dont want to, lol. It is proven safe and effective to take birth control pills every day without a break. There is at least 1 product available by prescription in the USA for that. It sells in packs of 3 for 3 months of coverage. The protocol allows for only 4 periods a year. Makes life easier! Check with your Physician. Hope this helps, all the best, Dr. Devi

Sometimes I think I'm lucky they didn't break everything in the house. :) Buzzillions has lots of good reviews though: Treat it like you would any other good furniture. Clean and protect it. Oil and reseal the wood, tighten screws, fix loose or broken/cracked parts, and check it for wear regularly. Good luck!
