What multiple of the time constant t gives the time taken by an initially uncharged capacitor in an RC series?
Q. What multiple of the time constant t gives the time taken by an initially uncharged capacitor in an RC series circuit to be charged to 79.5% of its final charge?
Asked by Natalia Gola - Thu Mar 17 08:07:23 2011 - Physics - 2 Answers - Comments
A. 0.795 = 1 e^(- t T) 0.205 = e^(- t T) ln [ 0.205 ] = - t T 1.585 = t T t = (1.585) T 1.585 time constants

How could I take multiple shots from my olympus m9000 camera?
Q. I just want want to take multiple shots(want more than one photos, when we put it in auto-timer mode). I checked in catalogue and from my camera . But I could not find the option.

A. Have you looked at the software and utilities that come on your camera's driver disc? I don't know if this is of any use, but some cameras come with software that allows them to be controlled from a PC, making the type of action you want possible. I hasten to add it's only a few cameras that have this ability, and I don't know if it's possible with any from Olympus.

What would be the effects of multiple moons on a planet?
Q. You know how in some work of fiction, especially in fantasy and science fiction, we see worlds that have more then one moon? Then, of course, there are other, actual planets in our own universe that have multiple moons. Well, scientifically speaking, what would the effects of multiple moons be on a planet? Would the tides just rise higher, or whatever? Would night just be brighter? Or would there be other effects? I'm not necessarily talking about the Earth itself as we know it, by the way. I mean some fictional, or far-flung plant in our own universe, that naturally has more then one moon.
Asked by Kitajima - Wed Aug 1 05:37:21 2007 - Other - Science - 3 Answers - Comments
A. I would think that the tides would at least be *different* - sometimes they would be higher (if both the moons were together), and on the parts of the planet where the moons were fathest away, the tides would be much lower. Likewise, if there were multiple moons, some nights might still be moonless, but many nights would probably have more light than our current earth-moon situation. Another thing that would change is that our planet would be pulled in different directions, and that would have some effects on the body of the planet itself. There's evidence to suggest that earthquakes and volcanic activity are linked to some degree to the position of the moon relative to a fault or other stress point; clearly if there were TWO bodies "p [cont.]

How do I get multiple layers to show up in one animation frame?
Q. In photoshop cs3, how do i get multiple layers to show up in the same animation frame?
Asked by ceazon22 - Sat Apr 5 21:10:18 2008 - Drawing & Illustration - 2 Answers - Comments
A. If you have all the layers turned on in the Photoshop file that you want to place in the frame, they will all show up. However, if you are asking if you can actually use them as layers within an animation frame, I don't think you can. The relative positions of objects in the frame would be determined by the layer(s) in the Photoshop file, not in the Animation frame. For example, say you had three layers that you wanted all in one frame, so you have them all turned on (the eye icons are showing). One has a red square in it, in the upper left corner. One has a green circle in the center, and the third one has a yellow triangle in the lower right. If you put all three in a frame, you will see the red square in the upper left, the green circle… [cont.]

Can multiple lasers of the same strength overlap each other while retaining each individuals laser's strength?
Q. Also, if multiple lasers of the same strength overlapped each other would they meld into one laser of the strength of an idividual laser or slightly increase in strength from the lasers grouping together due to overlapping? What would happen if multiple lasers of different strength hit each other at the same time? Would the strongest laser override the weaker lasers?

A. Only if the phases match precisely, otherwise they will destructively interfere and reduce the yield. Coherent combination of lasers is an active are of research, especially with fiber lasers, to increase the power output. Think of it as two water waves combining.

How can I scan multiple pages of a notebook using sequential scanning?
Q. There are around 100 pages in my notebook. My scanner is cannon mp-110. It takes a lot of time to scan even a single page.(Its intended to scan only one instance ) But when I click on 'Preview', its done in seconds but the image received is useless. Is there any method using which I could scan my full notebook(multiple pages) in a more proper manner?
Asked by Rohan - Fri Oct 22 14:42:49 2010 - Scanners - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Do you have a way of feeding more documents to the scanner if not, then NO. If you do, then its a matter if the pages can come out of your notebook, if not, then No again. The reason the preview is so fast is because its doing a really low quality scan (Faster your scan the less quality you get). If you lowered the quality of how detailed it scans your pages it wouldn't take as long, but again you get less quality.

How do I manage multiple email addresses for a single yahoo account?
Q. There is a screen somewhere buried in Yahoo that allows you to manage multiple email addresses as membership in yahoo groups. The last thing on that line is a link to "Edit Membership". Click on this link and it will take you to a page where you can choose among eligible email addys you have verified for the group. Q. My parents are planning on getting multiple Ti Vo boxes, what i'm wondering, it what is the price of multiple tivo boxes? One box = 19.99$ a month, So does Two boxes = 39.99$ a month and Three boxes = 59.99$ a month Or is there some kind of discount?

A. You do get a discount for multiple devices. It's called the "Multi-service discount". You pay the regular monthly rates on 1 box and get the other 1 or 2 at a reduced rate. Honestly though, I'm not sure what the rate is., I just know it's reduced. I have 1 I'm paying month-to-month and my 2nd has the Product Lifetime Service. Also, they do have discounted rates if you pay 1,2, even 3 years in advance. Again, not sure on those prices. Hope this helps, Tivo is GREAT, I love it

How do multiple cylinder engines work?
Q. I understand how 4-stroke engines work, but I just cant comprehend how the use of multiple cylinders would increase performance. Can somebody help me preferably with a diagram that I can find online?

A. See the animation below. Take the case of an inline, four-cylinder engine, such as the one in the animation. Think of it as four individual engines joined by one crankshaft. Whatever torque one cylinder generates, four cylinders generate four times the torque. A four cylinder engine is the easiest to envision this problem with, as each cylinder is performing one of the four strokes at any time. This is achieved through a combination of camshaft timing (opening / closing the valves) and firing order of the spark plugs. A typical firing order for a four cylinder engine such as this would be 1-3-4-2. So let's say that cylinder #1 is going down in the power stroke. #4 is also being pushed down, so it's on the intake stroke. #s 2 & 3 are… [cont.]

A. I agree with the other answers about sending the emails by BCC. What is confusing is that when you look at your own Sent Mail, you will see all the names that you sent the emails to. This was confusing to me the first time I sent out a bulk email using BCC. However, a few people reassured me that they could not see anyone else's email address. So just use BCC, and don't worry if all the names appear in your Sent Mail copy. I hope this helps.
