Who is responsible for choosing music/artists for video games and movie soundtracks?
Q. Who should I look for specifically.Arts director? Music supervisor? Id it easy to get the names of those people?
Asked by nismofo - Mon Jun 27 09:56:10 2011 - Movies - 1 Answers - Comments

A. It is the Music supervisor, they work with the director to pick songs that fit certain scenes. Yes it can be easy to get the names, you can look on the credits of the movies / video games, look on imdb.com for your favorite movie & they'll list them there, & even do a google search for local music supervision companies. "The Music Supervisor position is difficult to generalize and highly versatile, depending upon the industry and project the role is involved in. Typically, a music supervisor handles the process of choosing, negotiating, and incorporating pieces of music into visual media (such as a television show or movie), acting as a liaison between the creative and business ends of this process[1]. This position is most… [cont.]

Is 70s punk responsible for all the crappy mainstream music today?
Q. Before punk, musicians were expected to actually know how to play their instruments. Punk created the idea that all you needed was attitude and the right image. I believe this kind of thinking has led us to artists like Ke$ha and Gaga today, not to mention all those terrible "scene" bands. Was punk the worst thing that ever happened to music? Anyone care to actually explain your position? I'm finding you all pretty unconvincing.

Who is responsible for music in films when a Music Supervisor has not been employed?
Q. I know that Music Supervisors are responsible for suggesting and clearing music and working directly with Directors in films. My question is, when a film has not recruited a Music Supervisor (very few films on IMDB list actual Music Supervisors) who is responsible for finding, suggesting and clearing music?
Asked by - Thu Sep 1 14:54:21 2011 - Other - Music - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Could be the Production Coordinator, Musical Arranger, Sound Designer, Soundtrack Supervisor or even the Producer or the Director in some instances. It all depends on the type of film and budget. I, for example, work as a freelance Music Coordinator, i suggest and the director chooses what he wants, likes and what he is willing to pay for (mostly in case of copyrighted or commissioned tracks).

Is metal music responsible for the spreading of atheism? Should we forbid our children from listening to it?
Q. I believe rock and metal music has strong atheist/satanist influences. The lyrics of the songs are often about devil worshiping, sex and drugs, or even liberal/communist political messages. One of the inventors of "metal" music, Marilyn Manson, is also the creator of the "Church of Satan" (search on google if you don't believe me). I think this kind of music has a bad influence on our children and is responsible for the rise of atheism in the last decades. Other example, when played backwards some rock songs have subliminal satanist messages. For example, when you play "Hotel California" backwards, there is a point of the song where you clearly hear "Oh, my sweet Satan, give us our 666"

Why music artist should not be responsible for their music?
Q. If anyone can help me I need to search evidence why violent music (like I.C.P) does not trigger it's listeners to cause harm to others do you know what I mean? I believe who ever carries out violent crimes and blames music for it is just trying to blame someone for their actions and not take responsibility for it.
Asked by tiger! - Mon Apr 19 14:14:56 2010 - Current Events - 1 Answers - Comments

A. You're correct. People refuse to take responsibility for their own actions. They want to blame their problems on others. And they want a free ride. Our liberal welfare nanny state allows them to get away with it. Many people need a big boot in the butt.

A. My kids can listen to whatever music they like. If anything about that music disturbs them, they know that they can come talk to me about it anytime. I am a parent, not a censorship board. When these kids go out into the world, they'll be exposed to everything under the sun, including things that are rather unpleasant. I'd rather have them openly talk to me about their concerns than tell them they can't be exposed to certain things because someone out there doesn't approve.

Why do people blame rap music for people inability to make responsible decisions?
Q.
Asked by Space Ghost - Wed Dec 20 11:24:28 2006 - Sociology - 18 Answers - Comments

A. On this planet, we all need to take responsibility for our own actions. Sadly, however, we live in a world where people don't need to think for themselves...as the media is happy to do it for us. Programs like Fox News, for example, spew republican propaganda instead of news...and any young minds watching it will not know the difference. Therefore, their minds are formed in that propaganda. Music is an extension of that. As we are no longer encouraged to think for ourselves, we seek our opinions and beliefs from all sources around us...including music. Rap music can be horribly negative in many ways, and therefore, minds can be influenced negatively. Should rap music be held responsible? I think the artists should take responsibility and… [cont.]

What was the first acid rock song and who was responsible for it? Rock degenerated from the great music of?
Q. The Beatles, Herman's Hermits, CCR, Crosby, Stills and Young, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap to vile noise with that first Heavy Metal song. Who was the culprit?
Asked by flabbergasted - Fri Apr 30 06:25:23 2010 - Rock and Pop - 4 Answers - Comments

A. First: "Heavy Metal" is not the same as "Acid Rock." Of all the bands above, I can't think of one "Acid Rock" song with the possible exception of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" by The Beatles, and that's a stretch. I'd put that closer to "Acid-influenced." As to what was the actual first "Acid Rock" song, I think you'd have to look to early Pink Floyd for the answer.

A. i blame mtv. once they started putting videos on tv the record labels found that you could sell a person, rather than a talent. so they took shitty artists that were pretty, or had a gimmick, and give them airtime. from there everything went down hill. at first music videos seemed like a good thing. its more exposure for artists, and gave them a new ability to be creative with their music. once it turned into boy-band and britney spears bullshit it all started falling apart. when rap videos came along everything flipped upside down. not only were they promoting shitty non-talented artists, they sold the idea of riches and fame. now every eleventeen year old thinks they are going to be famous. music became a commercial. not who had the best… [cont.]

There was a release of internal info from Media Defender (who does the dirty work for the music/movie industries) that revealed a lot of their dirty tricks: Although virus would be a big step up as it would be illegal to distribute a virus.
