How would you say and pronounce "paw" in German?
Q. ...For like, teaching a dog to give paw? I looked up how to say it and it said, "die Pfote" Is that right? If so, how do you pronounce it correctly? Don't want to be saying it wrong. Day Foot? Long "o" sound? That's my guess, but hopefully someone can help me out if I'm wrong! Thanks.

A. To a dog you'd say "Pfote!" (without "die") or "Gib Pfote!" (Give paw). You can look at the following page how it's pronounced, just click on the loudspeaker symbol: There is also listed "Gib Pfotchen", Pfotchen just means little paw.

What do you think the last wish was in the short story "the monkey's paw"?
Q. I was reading the short story and at the end it says that the husband wished for "something" and then everything was over. I have my own idea as to what happened but I'm kind of wondering what other people think the wish was. YAY!

A. The lingering terror of The Monkey s Paw is that we have no idea what the last wish was. Clearly, Mr. White wished for his son to be gone at least that s what it appears he wished for. But we don t know for certain. And even more chilling what will be the consequence of the last wish?

A. Resolution means "ending." If you read it to the end, you know the resolution. If you mean "moral" or "message" I think it is "Watch out what you wish for, you just might get it."

Q. I tried the thing where you hold a smelly treat until they paw at it, then say "Paw" it worked in a day with my other dog, but the puppy i have now was already taught "Leave it" by her old owners, and just looks away instead of pawing my hand, what do i do?
Asked by Aaaahh! - Wed May 11 00:17:14 2011 - Dogs - 6 Answers - Comments

A. Show the treat, Touch the paw - say "Paw" or "Shake". Then actually lift the paw up and hold in your hand while saying "Paw" or "Shake" and give the treat while holding the paw. Repeat... shouldn't take too long!

A. Get some of the icky tasting yellow Listerine, put it in a spray bottle, and put it on your fingers before you handle your puppy. THis is in place of Bitter Apple. which really lasts for a long time and is miserable if you get it in your own mouth. At any rate, he'll quickly learn that fingers don't taste good. And by the way, make sure you say NO gently but firmly when he starts chewing on your hand.

A. The monkey paw teaches us that we should be happy with our lives. You should be careful what you wish for, when sitting around thinking how much your life could be better, or what you want in life. It also shows that no matter how bad you life can be, it could always be worse than that.

What does "south paw" mean in MLB talk?
Q. Also what is "apb" in MLB? or "balanced offence" mean? thanks.
Asked by nickysantor - Sat Jun 20 15:01:57 2009 - Baseball - 9 Answers - Comments

A. South Paw means a left-hander. From Wikipedia: "Ballparks are often designed so that batters are facing east, so that the afternoon or evening sun does not shine in their eyes. This means that left-handed pitchers are throwing with their south-side arm" Balanced Offense (not offence) means a lineup with all aspects (speed, smarts, walks, contact, homerun power, double power, etc.). APB, I think, stands for Annual Performance Bonus, which I believe is a bonus a player recieves if he does something by the end of the year (for example, they may get half a million if they hit 30 homeruns or something).

A. You say 'paw' with her foot on the ground. How does she know you mean pick up your paw when you say paw, when you say it with her paw on the ground? Pick up her paw, hold it until she's calm, then say paw and treat. Then once she learns the word paw with her foot up, start placing your hand behind her leg and saying 'paw' but do not pick up her paw, just nudge it from behind to encourage her to raise it. Finally start offering your hand out and saying paw. It may take more than a week. Don't worry. Some dogs are more paw orientated than others. Albie took awhile to learn shake and high five, Dora came to us already loving to 'slap' at people, it was just a matter of controlling it. =) Good luck!

"The Monkeys Paw" and "The Leap"?
Q. If someone has a grade 10 English book on hand, could you please tell me the page numbers these quotes are on? The Monkeys Paw: . "I don't see the money, and I bet I never shall." I don't know what the first two were, but I know the last one was for death. ___ "The Leap" I sit sewing in the room of the rebuilt house in which I slept as a child... and I am sewing with a needle of hot silver, a thread of fire. I owe my existence to my mother 3 times.

A. No, I don't have your book. Few Y!A answerers will. You can download Jacobs' story from Gutenberg (1) and do a word search using your computer's (F)ind command. The actual quotation is " 'Well, I don't see the money,' said his son as he picked it up and placed it on the table, 'and I bet I never shall.' " The irony is supreme here. The money arrives, but the son never sees it. The statement is about five pages into the story, just after the father makes his first wish. The other quotation occurs earlier, on about the third page, and you don't have it exactly either. Here it is: " 'The first man had his three wishes. Yes,' was the reply; 'I don't know what the first two were, but the third was for death. That's how I got the… [cont.]

Training how to "shake" or "paw"?
Q. I'm trying to teach my puppy how to "paw" he's 8 months old. Every time I reach for his paw, he won't quit smelling it, and trying to get(what he thinks is a treat) out of my hand! He won't pay attention to what I'm trying to do. All he wants is the treat! Will time work this out? Any tips/tricks/solutions? I also have issues w/ training him in general. He's very scared, and has always been. Whenever I try to teach him something, he does it, and after a long while, he finally learns it. But, I have an issue. I give him the command, and if he doesn't know what to do, he will do anything(sit, lay down, anything) until he gets the treat. That's all he wants is the treat. Anyone want to help a new trainer out? THANKS! :)
Asked by Love Life! <3 - Mon Nov 16 22:22:57 2009 - Dogs - 5 Answers - Comments

A. Place the treat near his paw and try to wait until his paw goes up towards the treat. When it does put your palm under his paw and say "shake" (or "paw") before giving him the treat. You can do it also by just picking up his paw and saying the command but the first method was easier for my dog to pick up.
