Philippines At the Paralympics Information
The Philippines made their Paralympic Games début at the 1988 Summer Paralympics in Seoul, with three men competing in athletics and one in swimming. All performed poorly, finishing last or close to last in all their events, and the country was absent from the next two editions of the Summer Paralympics. It made its return for the 2000 Games in Sydney, with a male athlete (Andres Lubin) in the javelin, and a female powerlifter, Adeline Dumapong. Dumapong won her country's first -and so far only- Paralympic medal when she took bronze in the up to 82.5kg event, lifting 110kg. In 2004, the Philippines were represented by two powerlifters. In 2008, Dumapong was due to compete, but was a non-starter in her event, so the country's only representatives were a pair in sailing, in the Mixed Two Person SKUD18 event. They finished last.[1]
The Philippines have never competed in the Winter Paralympics.[2]
