Religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of life and the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a supernatural agency, or human beings’ relation to that which they regard as holy, sacred, spiritual, or divine. Many religions have narratives, symbols, traditions and sacred histories that are intended to give meaning to life. They tend to derive morality, ethics, religious laws or a preferred lifestyle from their ideas about the cosmos and human nature. The word religion is sometimes used interchangeably with faith or belief system, but religion differs from private belief in that it has a public aspect. Most religions have organized behaviors, including congregations for prayer, priestly hierarchies, holy places, and/or scriptures. Academics studying the subject have divided religions into three broad categories: world religions, a term which refers to transcultural, international faiths, indigenous religions, which refers to smaller, culture-specific religious groups, and new religious movements, which refers to recently developed faiths. The development of religion has taken different forms in different cultures. Some religions place greater emphasis on belief, while others emphasize practice. Some religions focus on the subjective experience of the religious individual, while others consider the activities of the community to be most important. Some religions claim to be universal, believing their laws and cosmology to be binding for everyone, while others are intended to be practiced only by one, localized group. Religion often makes use of meditation, music and art. In many places it has been associated with public institutions such as education, the family, government, and political power. One of the more influential theories of religion today is social constructionism, which says that religion is a modern concept suggesting all spiritual practice and worship follows a model similar to Christianity; social constructionism suggests that religion, as a concept, has therefore been applied inappropriately to non-Western cultures. GNU Free Documentation License Religion is a word which refers to approaches to human spirituality which usually encompass a set of narratives, symbols, beliefs and practices, often with a supernatural or transcendent quality, that give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life through reference to a higher power or truth. It may be expressed through prayer, ritual, meditation, music and art, among other things. It may focus on specific supernatural, metaphysical, and moral claims about reality (the cosmos and human nature) which may yield a set of religious laws, ethics, and a particular lifestyle. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and religious experience. The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction.

From Google Video Search: "religion" How can you prove that your religion is true when there are so many others what makes your religion real/true? Q. I just want to know, how can you prove that there is a superior being among us, Whats makes you believe that your religion is the truth. Also if you were raised on another religion wouldn't you believe that religion instead? Asked by devante - Sun Mar 27 09:02:29 2011 - Religion & Spirituality - 5 Answers - Comments A. Well whatever is most convincing and scary (in that combination) is probably the one you choose. Probably if you're raised in a particular religion then your knowledge of it, which might be more in depth than on other religions, is appropriately both of those things. Answered by Kira Dillinger - Sun Mar 27 09:06:26 2011 What does your religion think of nudity? Not in a sleazy way, in the sense of within a nudist colony?
Q. Like I said, not in a sleazy way; in a nudist colony, or in fine art. In non-sexual situations. What does your religion think of it all? Is the human body something to be celebrated and admired in all it's fleshy glory? Or is nudity a representative of sexual desire and immoral sexual acts? Please let me know which religion/non religion you are part of when you answer, so I get a clearer idea of people's thoughts on the subject. Asked by Lettuce - Sun Jul 19 17:40:34 2009 - Religion & Spirituality - 3 Answers - Comments A. I have been raised as a semi-practicing Muslim. I am not religious, but I am spiratual, and I have always had an "anything goes... try it at least once//don't knock it until you've tried it" attitude for many things in my life. I have been to a nudist spa/sauna, and it was not bad at all. I know that other Muslims will give me a "brother you should never show your privates to anyone" lecture, but for me, I learned much about nudity. Just as in Islam some women choose to wear the hijab--head covering, nudity got me a better understanding more about modesty and for seeing people past their beauty. Thank you Muslims & Islam and also thank you to Nudists. Answered by ShavedDownUnda - Sun Jul 19 21:44:52 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "religion" |
