In your opinion, which is the most liberating religion/spirituality for both men and women?
Q. Which treats both genders with respect, for those who wonder why it is in this section. That's why. Extrapolate. Please. Any links would be helpful. I am not familiar with some of these. Also - are gays and bis accepted in these same religions/spiritualities? I got real tired of elaborate, Facade. And remember, I'm not British so sometimes I have a sense of humor. Oh, and you forgot your comma after "straight" :P Just kiddin'- good to see you. ;-) Digger, I agree with you. I just wish you'd talked more about what you said, especially Sikhism. This happens to me when I'm on break. I miss grading papers. Sick, I know...

A. Naturally, I'd be inclined to choose my own, which is Judaism, but of a particular kind: the Jewish Renewal movement which is both socially progressive (egalitarian, pro-human rights, supportive of LGBT people) and theologically traditional, drawing on Hasidism and Kabbalah, unabashedly mystical and emphasizing close study of the Torah and other texts, to address the whole human being. But obviously, I have a bias. From what I know of many forms of Buddhism, especially as it has adapted to the West, it is very positive. Many Christian denominations are, particularly the Quakers, the Community of Friends. Sufism is a very positive form of Islam.

Why do atheists come to the religion & spirituality forum?
Q. And its always targeting Christianity? If it has nothing to do with you then why bother?
Asked by jarod - Fri Oct 15 21:32:56 2010 - - 31 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Because, Satan is running out of time and because there is little demons inside each and every one of them that enjoy making fun of Christians. These demons just need to be rebuked out of them so that they can think straight. These demons enjoy it because they think that if they get us to fall that we will be tormented in hell with them when we die. Satan and his demons are jealous that God wants to bless us and that God loves us and God always wins. They've been outcasts from heaven for a long time so these demons like lying to Christians so that some of them will fall and have doubts about God. Satan is basically using these people because he thinks that he could hurt us but if God be for us then who can be against us. These atheists… [cont.]

Why are there so many weird questions in the Religion & Spirituality section here?
Q. Is this the section where people with no lives all gather at? I mean, there are the legitimate questions about faith matters and religion, and there's questions regarding irreligion, and often there's troll answers on each type of question. But then there's the ones that are just WAY out there.

A. I think it would be great if we had a format with only legitimate spiritual questions and those interested only in their own entertainment would switch to TV or whatever..I enjoy answering good questions but sometimes I have to pass 10 questions before I find a good one. I often wonder what kind of life many of these people have when they have so much time to devote to bashing others, being totally silly, and being as vulgar as they are able to get away with..God bless

Do you think religion/spirituality does a human more good or bad?
Q. I'm talking about becoming spiritual in general, not "well, if there wasn't God, we wouldn't be here, so it does complete good!", that's not the question. Just if anyone becomes religious in general, do think it will help them more in life or bring them down? Your thoughts? There is no right or wrong answer, and I'll only give thumbs down to non-respectful answers, but besides them I won't put thumbs up or thumbs down.

A. I will answer from personal experience and say that faith in Jesus has definitely done me more good than bad and I'm convinced that everyone I know will agree with me on this one... Prior to putting my trust in Jesus I was a drug dealing, womanising, foul mouthed alcoholic who thought that fun involved going out clubbing, smoking some dope, getting very drunk and taking a different woman home each night. I lived for myself and rarely gave a thought for others at all... Since becoming a Christian all this has changed... Now my life is characterised by the good things that I do rather than the bad. I worked at a homeless drop-in center for several years before heading to Malawi (among the 10 poorest nations in the world) to work as a… [cont.]

How does your Religion/Spirituality support/contradict your Green Lifestyle?
Q. I am an non believer but very interested in Buddhism. My Permaculture Ethics: Earth Care, People Care and Fair Shares support a green lifestyle. How does your Religion/Spirituality support/contradict your Green Lifestyle?
Asked by barefootwanderin - Thu Aug 30 04:00:18 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Essentially, most religions have at their core similar precepts. Do onto others, take care of the world around you, love your neighbour as yourself, share your stuff... That kind of thing. Not because we are all copycats, but because those have a tendency to fulfill our needs as the social creatures that we are. We need other humans to survive, on practical, emotional, and intellectual levels. We are therefore empathetic, attempting to learn what upsets others so as to not tic them off and make them go away. It also follows that we extend that to other creatures, moving and not. So most religions are animist and communist, or some variant, or like the more patriarchal Xianity, 'guardians' of the world. It's really supposed to be… [cont.]

Would anybody agree that religion, spirituality, and faith fall within the realms of paranormal?
Q. Or within the realms of parapsychology? They all make claims outside of what science can prove?
Asked by likn my life - Fri Nov 13 10:51:07 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Many aspects of religion DO fall under the paranormal category. Angels, Demons, Heaven and Hell. God and his son that walks on water then comes back to life. It seems to me that most religions are completely rooted in the paranormal, though most would never admit it.

Do you think religion/spirituality has the ability to help pessimists become optimists?
Q. And if so, which religions or spiritualities do you think would do the trick?
Asked by Citizen of the Cosmos - Mon Mar 23 13:21:33 2009 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Religion/Spirituality can not change who you are or your personality. It can enhance how you view the world and give you more options. Each soul has their own level and needs to seek the spiritual guidance that makes the most sense to them and just makes their souls yell YES this is the way...none are right or wrong just different. If you are such a downer that it affects your life and suicide seems a great choice then you need medical help and it might be more than just pessimistic ideals. Hormones can effect a person as much as religion. May you be blessed.

Should there be a separate section for spirituality, other than religion/spirituality in yahoo answers?
Q. No offense to anyone, but looks like most questions in religion/spirituality section are dominated by questions related to major religions. Do you think there should be a separate section just for spirituality (like meditation, yoga, qi-gong, reiki and other spiritual practises)? How can we suggest to yahoo to create a separate section? Thanks for all answers in advance!

A. Do we ever realize why spirituality does not command the respect it should! Primarily it was traveling spiritual path human beings gained enlightenment (kaivalya jnana). God Almighty could never be reached via path of religion... path of rituals! If we desire gaining enlightenment in present life time... we have to travel spiritual path... no matter what! As per sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism spirituality alone is the true essence of life. Why? As detailed in Bhagavad Gita we are primarily a spirit... a spiritual consciousness that has manifested human form to work out its karma... remove dross impurities within! We are on a life cycle of 8.4 million manifestations... an earthly journey of 96.4 million years! Spirituality is the… [cont.]

Why the distinction between the Mythology / Folklore and the Religion / Spirituality categories?
Q. Aren't they one in the same? Is it because religion demands ceremony and ritual, for without the ritual, it would simply be a story? Is it because as a Religion outlives it's usefulness, all that remains are the stories...the Mythology? Or is it that those who believe in Modern religions consider all outside their realm Mythology?
Asked by gloveside40 - Sat Nov 27 16:40:29 2010 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Many religions, my own included, do have certain mythological aspects. However, the Mythology/Folklore section may be more geared toward historical myth, while R&S often centers around religions that are still being actively practiced today. Also, folklore is often a separate matter from religion, since there are many folk stories that do not have religious connotations.

Religion&Spirituality:Do you think the Vicar of Dibley is a good vicar?

Q. This morning two users I blocked were able to enter my question and post on Yahoo Answers Religion and Spirituality. How is this possible?

A. I have several people who have me blocked. I know I could answer them but I choose not to. I must have already gotten my message through to them and they did not like it. I don't need to force it. I never block anyone and I never report anyone. What is the point of coming here and then blocking people who disagree? I consider it childish and silly unless you feel stalked or threatened in some way.
