Are television, movies and music responsible for teen violence?
Q. I'm writing an essay and the question is "Are television, movies and music responsible for teen violence?". My answers is 'no', and I have 2 points so far, and I need a third. They are: 1) The parents may be responsible because they decide what their children are exposed to 2) If this were true, it would not explain the violence of children and adults 3) ? If anyone has any ideas to help they would be appreciated.

A. It is the parents responsibility to teach right and wrong if the parents gives the child morals, the kid won't look to tv or music or be easily influenced by it. When I was a teenager I could watch a violent tv program without copying what was on the screen because my parents taught me right from wrong and I knew what is reality and what is fantasy. Parents should also teach their kids about consequences so they will know that if they do something wrong they will have to pay for it.

A. I love movies made for television and likely watch one or two of them every day! Do you mean just the Lifetime movies? I ask that because TV movies started being made in the Sixties, and there are some amazing ones. I'll list some I have in my film journal, which includes Hallmark, Lifetime and Sci Fi channels: Basilisk Aztec Rex Patient 14 Disappearance My Fake Fiance First Born (2007) Absolution (2006) Still Small Voices Home by Christmas Holiday in Handcuffs Trilogy of Terror 1 & 2 The Last Dance (2000) Hush Little Baby (2007) Prince Charming (2001) I've Been Waiting for You The Haunting of Sorority Row The Immortal Voyage of Captain Drake The Good Witch and The Good Witch's Garden Also, I always tune in for Jane Seymour's TV… [cont.]

Where can I get a long list of movies and television shows that are homoerotic?
Q. Shows like Supernatural that have a large degree of homoerotic themes and content. In Supernatural on the CW, the two main characters are "brothers" but the long held notion is that they are really gay lovers and that they use the family relationship to cloak their love for each other. This is also seen throughout movies and other television shows. Let's compile a list of homoerotic movies, television shows, and the scenes. Male nudity in scenes is always a plus ;).

Media (movies, television shows, audio) that is parallel to themes in the Old Man and the Sea?
Q. I am doing an english ISU, and for one component we have to compare themes in the book and how they are present in the media today... One I have in mind is winner takes nothing. Any movies or shows relating to that? Thanks so much
Asked by Meghann - Sat May 31 17:18:58 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This may be a stretch, but I'm thinking about Million Dollar Baby- that boxing movie with Hillary Swank. Perhaps the parallel of how there is so much hope built into her desire to prove herself- just like Santiago, she is laughed at, misunderstood, and fights against huge odds. For her, like Santiago, she won because of the journey, even though she was eventually beaten and physically destroyed. She had her pride. If I remember the film correctly (it's been a while!), she made it to her big battle (like his with the fish), and then an unlucky punch, or fate, or whatever you want to call it, struck her down- like the sharks and going out too far. They both pushed the limits. They "lost" but truly won.

Q. ...2. morally degrading 3. Other. Please tell what your age decade is ex. teens... 20s, 20s, 50s etc. please tell why regarding your answer.
Asked by cheezygrits - Sat Feb 13 19:42:01 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 3. Other There are plenty of uplifting movies/shows/albums, and a few morally degrading ones. Neither of those categories accounts for "the most part" of media. I think the advent of cable TV, in particular, has improved the quality of TV drama because creative teams now get to pursue projects that don't need to appeal to a massive audience. They can focus on interesting topics and quality storytelling, e.g. "The Wire", "Mad Men", etc. In my 30s.

A. As long as the tv recognizes the formatting of the USB device (probable it should be fat 32) then it should play movies from your external hard drive.

What are some good wholesome family movies and television series?
Q. I just bought the complete series of Christy on DVD. Watching it made me remember why I loved it when it aired on TV in the 90's. I think the characters are a joy to watch, and I think the actors did a great job with their roles. I also love the Christian values that are presented in the series, and the over-all good wholesome material that's shown. I was wondering what some other movies/television series there are out there, that are similar in nature (that nature being a good wholesome family movie/television series); You can let me know if it's available on DVD. You can also let me know what you think of the "Christy" series. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Thank you.

A. I'll have to check Christy out. The ones I can recommend are: 7th Heaven, Little House on the Prarie, I thought Passion of the Christ was good, and anything with angels.

Q. For the past few months, I have boycotted television. I once allowed myself to become emotionally involved with the daily ebb and flow of our news, even though I knew it was false. My focus and emotional stability has improved. Except for football, which is still a powerful propaganda tool.

A. Television used to be really entertaining. I was about 9 when we got a TV so it was really amazing to me and all the programming was clean and wholesome. The news was more factual with local news at 5 and world/national news at 6. There were family programs on that we all watched together and only 3 networks. I'm in my 60's so I remember not having a TV. I didn't miss it before we had one. Now TV is an intrusion for people with young children unless you watch NICK or the cartoons. Even some of the cartoons aren't fit for young children. I don't know of any family shows that everyone of all ages would like or be fit to watch. The news is a joke. I don't go to the movies anymore. I can't stand to sit that long. They just don't… [cont.]
