What toys can I make for my cat to play with using house hold items?
Q. My cat is nearly 3 years old ( in November) and she gets lonely and bored alot of times when I'm busy and can't play or pet her. She doesn't like marbles or balls, she grew out of them, and I want to make her her own toy she could play with on her own and have fun. I can't buy any toys because my parents won't take me but I really want to make her something special so she won't be bored and lonely. But she's afraid of almost everything so it can't be that big.

A. Cats tend to be so fickle, that it's usually best to NOT put that much effort into it! Try out a few things to see what grabs her attention: - Dangle a shoelace or string - Attach a bell (or something with a little noise) to a stick - Try a bow used for gift wrapping - Toss her the cap of bottled water/milk - My cats love to carry around hair binders - Make a ball out of gift wrapping paper (so it crinkles) - Blow bubbles near her - Any flash light or small laser light can provide hours of entertainment Good job looking after your cat's needs :)

What are some good toys for cats that they can play with without me having to manipulate them?
Q. My bf and I have two cats (one is not quite an adult). We're both full time college students and have lots of other activities going on so we're not home much. I buy my cats tons of toys but a lot of them they won't or can't play with unless I am manipulating them. Aside from that toy where the ball rolls around in a circle (I have that), what are some toys the cats could play with and not need humans to help with? I try to play with them as much as I can, but a lot of times I just cuddle and pet them rather than play.

A. cats love to play with anything...and will by themselves...try some tennis balls...crumpled up foil...straws...all my cats love these...they will bat them around and carry the straws around in their mouths. i am glad that you care about your cats...cuddle and petting let them know they are loved...but playing with them is important, too. try to find some time for them every day...a few minutes is all you need...

What homemade toys are safe for a bird? Or things around the house are safe for a bird to play with?
Q. I have a parakeet and a lovebird. My parakeet doesn't really like to play with anything but the expensive bell toys, but my lovebird will play with anything. My parakeet does love to chew on my baskets which I hate. Is there anything close to a basket that he will like that he can chew on? He doesn't like bird chew toys.

A. Bell toys don't have to be expensive. You can buy bells in bulk from places like and you can pick up your own materials to make your own toys from typical craft stores. You can also get some cheap baskets to divert your budgie's attention to those. Birds like to be able to chew something somewhat challenging, like tough cardboards (lovebirds especially), so you can tear apart any box to get those. Just be aware so you don't end up giving your birds glues, adhesives, or tape residue that could be toxic. Also, toilet paper rolls use an adhesive to stick the paper to it that could be damaging to birds, so avoid using those. Again, craft stores are great. They carry a wealth of neat materials; beads, hemp, rope, squishy shapes, sometimes… [cont.]

How do toy websites carry a full line of toys that are older, unopened, and the manufacturer no longer sells?
Q. How is it possible for people to have a website that sells action figures and other toys to carry a full line of old ones too? If the manufacturer (such as Hasbro) stopped making them years ago, where are the companies getting the stock?
Asked by chad b - Thu Oct 4 22:20:52 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It depends on the site, but many literally buy cases of a particular line of toys direct from the manufacturer. Usually these are sold off to consumers either as individual figures, a full set of a particular series, or by case. It's interesting to note that since many collectors may be after a particular rare short-packed or chase figure, sites may force them into buying a whole set to get that one figure. In any case, any left over product is still there in the inventory until the company sells it off, no matter how old it is. Sometimes this is a cheaper way to find old toys than trying to track them down on eBay. Entertainment Earth is a site I check into from time to time. It's very current, but does carry some older stock. … [cont.]

Where can i find good puzzle toys for my dog?
Q. Well, I have a smart little doggie, and she's very easily bored with the toys she has right now. She's a shepard collie cross, and, to my dismay, she's already mastered how to get treats out of Kong toys. Right now, I'm keeping her occupied with an oddly shaped treat inside of a plastic water bottle ><. So, if anyone knows some other toys I could get for her, that would be awesome. Even better, would be links to where I can purchase these items online. Thanks a bunch everyone!

A. My dogs LOVE plastic water bottles and so do I! I first used them when I was in a state that recycled them and I taught the dogs to take any of my empty bottles to the recycle bins and then they come back and I gave them a treat... that soon backfired as when they ran out of the empties from me, they figured out how to get the ones out of the recycle bin, plant them in various areas and 'retrieve' them for a treat again... duh... boy was I used!! They have the various little balls that you can put kibble or treats in where you can give them interesting things to do -- check on the pet catalog sites... there is also a site from Kong that shows various treat suggestions including freezing stuff in them and putting different things in there… [cont.]

What are the different sex toys that commonly found at market ?
Q. Please suggest me the sex toys that we can easily find from market. From where can I get most of the sex toys.
Asked by Rahul - Tue Jun 1 07:15:09 2010 - - 8 Answers - 2 Comments
A. Not sure what "market" you are asking about. If you are asking a super market (w/food) I would say bananas, squash, cucumber, zukini, etc... But if your talking about a sex-shop...go look for these items: For Her: Clit tickler (vibrates and has tlittle "ticklers" that extend from the top) For Him/Her: Anal beads, fruity lubes, whips, swings, the **Liberator**, lingerie. For Him: Penis ring (goes around the base of the shaft to numb penis so as not to prematurely ejaculate.

How to disinfect toys that are contaminated with bat feces?
Q. We were given a lot of larger toys for my daughter. We put them in the attic and at the time didn't realize we had bats up there. Well now the toys are covered with bat feces. We were going to just throw the toys out but they are so nice and because of the economy we don't have the money to replace them. How could we disinfect the toys so that they are truly safe for our 14 month old. I was thinking bleach and a hot water spray. And then let them air dry out side. Any thoughts.
Asked by joshuandayna - Thu Jun 12 22:45:55 2008 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments
A. I'd make sure you have a good ratio of bleach to water, let them air dry in the sunshine. Bat guano can be toxic and can also harbor disease. Diseases found in guano are respiratory in nature and are an airborne pathogen. PLEASE wear a HEPA mask when you get them down, and if possible wet the area down before you pull them down. It's when there is dry dust kicked up that it's the most serious.

What is the best way to clean or disinfect toddler toys in order to prevent the spread of illness?
Q. A lot of times we don't know a child is sick until days later when symptoms are more evident to the parent. What kinds of toys are good for guinea pigs?
Q. I want to get my lil piggie something fun to play with, but I heard alot of the toys that are out there on the market can hurt their back. Any suggestions?
Asked by sweetheartkat22 - Wed May 27 14:57:04 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The best and most safe toys for guinea pigs are actually things you can find right in your house. They love things like toilet and paper towel rolls (of course make sure it's just the cardboard roll without any paper on it), they also enjoy brown paper bags, just open each end and they will chew on it and run through it like a tunnel. you can also fill it with hay. Some guinea pigs also like small bird toys that you can find at the pet store, just make sure it isn't too big and doesn't have too many strings and things on it that could be a choking hazard. But you're right most toys out there are harmful to piggies and the exercise balls should never be used because a guinea pigs body is not as flexible as a hamster or gerbil.

How do I remove batteries from toys from an unopened box and prevent decrease in value?
Q. I am a transformers collector and i have toys that are unopened but have batteries in them and i am afraid that they will corrode, so how does someone remove them without decreasing toy value?
Asked by Osvaldo - Tue Aug 24 00:30:58 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The answer is: carefully! Seriously though, in the first 5 years or so you probably don't have to worry about the batteries corroding. After that you have to decide which is worth more - original packaging that was carefully opened (to remove the batteries) and then put back together, vs. unopened packaging where the battery may have corroded?

Anyone know what happens to toys when the manufacturer stops producing them and stores pull them?
Q. Does anyone know what happens to the toys on the shelf at places like Wal*Mart or Toy's R Us when the manufacturer ceases production, or replaces them with a new line, and all of the sudden the old toys, "disappear" from the shelf? I know sometimes they move them to clearance isles, but sometimes they just disappear. Does anyone out there know? Are they sent back to the manufacturer? Are they melted down to make more toys? Are they donated to charity for some kind of tax write-off?

A. Frequently they are clearanced at other stores like Big Lots and other dime stores. Other times they are sold into other countries where they just repackaged Then other times they just get stored and forgotten about. In 1999 it was found that Hasbro Canada had a large warehouse full of GIJoe toys, it was emptied out by collectors in a matter of days.

For normal home use with toys that are played with mostly by just your own child, washing with soap and rinsing well is all it takes to keep toys clean. If other children visit your home and play with your child's toys then you may want to disinfect, but if they aren't sick it really isn't necessary. For my daycare, I regularly wash most plastic toys in the top shelf of my dishwasher. Teething toys, rattles, and anything that has been in a baby's mouth goes through the dishwasher if possible. Other things are washed in warm soapy water, rinsed well and placed in a… [cont.]

What store has a good selection for unique toddler toys?
Q. I have been looking all over the internet and it seems that I find the same toys everywhere. Which online store has a good selection of toddler toys. I do not want plastic junk, just some good old fashioned wooden toddler toys.

A. Ebay is probably your best bet for such toys.

What are the requirements and benefits for a discovery toys consultant?
Q. Hi. I have been seriously considering becoming a Discovery Toys consultant, but wanted to find out what requirements are for an active consultant and what type of benefits are available? I know the starter kit comes with a lot of toys, but do you get a discount on additional toys you purchase? What type of percentage do you get paid for your sales? Thanks in advance for your input. :)

A. At 8 weeks old they really aren't playing with anything yet. Try to get toys with lights or something that will get their attention but as far as actually playing goes, they aren't really ready for that yet.
